Vancouver

“Believe it or not, oral hygiene has been a part of human life more than 5000 years ago when the Egyptians built their first crude toothbrushes from twigs and leaves to clean their teeth.”

Ogden Nash, an American poet had once said “Some pains are physical, and some pains are mental, but the one that’s both is DENTAL.

One of the first responsibilities placed on us as kids are developing and maintaining good oral hygiene and yet it’s also one of the easiest to overlook as time goes on and we get busier, and then all of a sudden you’re met with an emergency consisting of pain, discomfort and sleepless nights. Yes, you know what we mean, been there faced that!

There can be differing opinions when it comes to what constitutes a dental emergency, given the fact that different people have different ways of dealing with pain, while one patient may put up with discomfort or pain for days before seeking medical help, another may seek emergency dentistry for a minor issue.

What is a Dental Emergency?
A dental emergency includes “oral-facial trauma, significant infection, prolonged bleeding, or pain which cannot be managed by over-the-counter medications.”

What does this mean?
It means that if you have the following conditions, they fall into the category of emergency dental treatment and you should get treated right away:
  • Any toothaches: pressure or temperature sensitivity, and especially if this condition is preventing you from sleeping or eating properly
  • Soft Tissue Injury. Injuries to the mouth, tongue, and gums. Any swelling inside your mouth or facial swelling
  • A broken tooth that is irritating your cheeks or tongue, and not allowing you to eat or sleep properly
  • Knocked out tooth
  • Fractured or cracks
  • Badly bitten lip or tongue
  • Something stuck between your teeth that you cannot get out with floss
  • Lost filling that is causing you pain

If you are experiencing severe pain, bleeding, or have been hit in the mouth, you should have emergency dentistry.

We at 24/7 Emergency Dental Clinic value the importance of your teeth and your time and when it comes to dental emergencies or all of your dental needs we are committed and capable of taking care of you.

List of services we provide throughout Vancouver:

Toothache
A toothache refers to any sort of pain that starts near a person’s teeth, gum, or jaw. Most of the time, cracked teeth, cavities, exposed roots, and nerves can cause this pain. You know the feeling. No matter what you do, the pain in your molar just won't go away. No home remedy, no painkillers will help. This is the story of my people who struggle with toothaches.
We believe in the saying “Devil lies in the details” and begin our treatment with a thorough mouth examination followed by x rays of the infected area. We then suggested treatment and options available. The treatment can be completed in one or several sittings, depending on the severity of the damage/issue.

Tooth extractions
Tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth from its socket in the bone. Some of the common reasons for tooth extraction are-
  • Decay has reached deep into the tooth
  • An infection has destroyed a large portion of the tooth or the surrounding bone
  • There isn’t enough room for all the teeth in your mouth
  • Extra teeth block other teeth from coming in
  • Baby teeth don't fall out in time for the permanent teeth to come in
  • People getting braces or other orthodontic treatment may need teeth extracted to create room for the teeth that will be moved into place.
  • Wisdom teeth, also called third molars, are often extracted either before or after they come in during the late teens or early 20s

Our priority is to be able to restore your natural teeth, but when we can’t do that and a tooth extraction is the only option we ensure everything is done smoothly and in the easiest way possible.  Before a tooth is removed, our specialized dentist will thoroughly review your medical and dental history and take the appropriate X-rays. X-rays reveal the length, shape, and position of the tooth and surrounding bone. From this information, we can estimate the degree of difficulty of the procedure and decide whether to refer you to an oral surgeon. The treatment can be completed in one or several sittings, depending on the severity of the damage/issue.

Root canal treatment
When a tooth is suffering from deep decay or infection, one of the best ways to save it is with root canal therapy. We perform a root canal therapy that removes the infected dental pulp from inside the tooth. Undergoing the root canal treatment will solve issues like sensitivity, infection, and the need for tooth extraction. The procedure will get done in two sittings and is extremely affordable too.

“Knocked out” tooth
When a tooth is knocked out or Avulsed it is most commonly due to an injury or accident. However, this does not necessarily mean the tooth has been lost forever. If quick emergency action is taken the tooth can be saved. Thus,  a knocked-out permanent tooth requires immediate treatment. We ensure even before you visit us, we give you proper instructions on how to preserve your tooth and how to not damage your tooth and socket further. Once you visit us, we will immediately try and fix the tooth to the teeth either side of it to hold it in place (splinting). In a couple of weeks, you come back and get the splint removed.

Broken tooth
A broken tooth can range from a chip in the hard enamel exterior to the complete breakage of an area, leaving the dentin and pulp exposed. We understand breaking a tooth can be traumatic, but quick action and a visit to us can fix cosmetic damage and help prevent long term problems.
When you come to our office, we’ll assess your tooth and recommend the best way to correct the problem. Broken and fractured teeth usually require some sort of reconstructive dentistry to repair. Fractured or cracked teeth might need a root canal and crown while a broken tooth might call for a crown only. Fillings may need to be replaced as well, especially if a weak filling caused your tooth to break in the first place. If a tooth is broken off at the root, you may need the root to be extracted and a dental implant to restore function and form.

Bitten tongue/lip
Biting down on one's lip or tongue usually happens unexpectedly. You might just be chewing, and you bite wrong and end up wounding yourself. You might also bite yourself in the course of falling or other accident that presses your teeth against your lips or tongue. Such a bite can result in quite a bit of bleeding because the mouth has an excellent blood supply. Most times, it only results in pain and swelling. But there are instances where biting down on your lip or tongue requires medical attention. We assess the wound and determine whether or not sutures are needed. Injuries that are long or deep may require sutures, cauterization, or other treatment.  We take care of severe lacerations if required.

Cosmetic Dentistry
It is that branch of dentistry that specifically focuses on improving the aesthetics of your teeth and gums. The procedures that are classified as cosmetic surgery may not necessarily solve the discomfort and issues associated with the oral problem
Cosmetic Dentistry procedures are ideal for teeth that are:
  • Stained, discolored, or yellowed
  • Chipped, broken, or cracked
  • Missing
  • Crooked
  • Wide-gapped
  • Misaligned or misshaped
  • Eroded
  • Irregular
  • Overlapping
  • Crowded

The most common cosmetic dentistry procedures are we perform are:

  • Teeth Whitening
  • Dental Veneers
  • Dental Bonding
  • Inlays and Onlays

When it comes to improving the beauty of your smile, you have several procedures as options. Based on what oral imperfections you have, our dentist will suggest the best-suited cosmetic dentistry procedure.

Misplaced fillings or crowns
Losing a filling or crown can be unexpected, alarming, and certainly startling. They may fall out for several reasons such as when over time, chewing hard food loosens the filling or saliva breaks down the bonding. Worse still, a filling or crown might fall out because of tooth decay in which the foundation of the tooth rots away, causing it to lose support and fall out. When the filling or crown falls out, you must take certain steps to protect the tooth. If left uncared for, food debris can get into the holes in your teeth and cause bacteria to grow and accelerate the decay.
Tooth decay can lead to numerous other problems with teeth and gums, and it often can lead to a bad odor in your mouth. If you find that your crown or filling has fallen out, regardless of the condition of the tooth underneath, you need to care for the tooth quickly before it becomes an even more difficult situation to handle.
We are well equipped to handle such situations and provide the best possible treatment to repair the damage. Our process starts even before you visit us. We will provide you with proper instructions on how to minimize any pain you’re experiencing and reduce the risk of complications.
Once you’re in our clinic we start the treatment with performing x-ray of your teeth to determine which treatment option is best for you. The treatment can either be as simple as replacing the filling, tooth requiring a root canal or a crown to ensure the integrity of the tooth. Very rarely will a tooth need to be extracted. Whatever it is we have you covered.

Sedation Dentistry
Sedation dentistry refers to the practice of performing dental procedures by relaxing the patient through medical sedatives such as nitrous oxide. In such procedures, the patients are awake and can see the procedure, but do not experience any pain or discomfort. Dentists decide the level of sedatives to be used based on the patient's age and pain resilience level.

How Sedation Dentistry Works?
Sedatives can be of different types. The most commonly used sedative by dentists is nitrous oxide. The procedure of inducing the same has the following steps:
  • We will first ask you to make yourself comfortable in the chair and then place a facial mask on you.
  • The facial mask will emit nitrous oxide which you’ll have to inhale.
  • We will then wait for the sedative to take effect. This may take a few minutes.
  • We will then check your breathing for stability and then start the dental procedure.

Is Sedation Dentistry Safe?
Nitrous oxide is induced into your system through a facial mask, so your body is not injected with anything. Gas-based sedatives are comparatively mild and safe for the system. However, it is essential to talk about the risks beforehand with your dentist. Patients who suffer from sleep apnea should discuss the risk before opting for sedation dentistry.
