Emergency Dentist: Why is summer the best time for your kid to get braces

Summer vacations are simply the perfect time to get your children braces. School is not on and they don’t have to be afraid of social stigma of wearing braces. It’s the best time to convince your children to get braces.

Still not convinced. Here are a few more reasons that explain the benefits of getting braces for children during summers.

Appointments easier to schedule

Before the busy school year recommences, it is always better to schedule a few appointments. Having your work schedule align with your child’s school schedule for planning appointments can be tricky. For this reason, summer is ideal season to get braces for children.

Scheduling for kids

Getting braces for your child usually takes at least three appointments: a consultation, the installation, and a follow-up visit. Booking all three appointments before the school year starts can save your kids the hassle of going through dental changes during a hectic school schedule.

Adjusted routine for food

When you install braces for the first time, you need time to figure out the types of food you can eat and the type you should avoid. You can experiment all you want during summers. Soft foods tend to be best for braces wearers, especially after the initial soreness that comes with getting braces on for the first time or tightened at scheduled checkups. Sticky and crunchy foods tend to cause problems, and should be avoided as they can delay treatment by knocking brackets or wires loose. Your orthodontist will advise you regarding the type of food you should and shouldn’t eat with braces, and the summer is  great time to develop this routine. By the time school rolls around, your kid will know just what lunch items they can eat with their braces.

Comfort

Getting over the initial discomfort will be easier if they relax at home. It is irritating to deal with aching teeth and gums when you are in school. Braces often require some time getting used to and this can be done during summers very easily.

Cleaning

When it comes to cleaning, your child will have to be extremely careful about the process. Cleaning braces needs a lot of attention. Get them an interdental brush and a soft toothbrush with slim bristles, which can squeeze into the spaces between teeth and around braces more easily. Do not forget to use a mild mouthwash to ensure there are no cavities.
All of the above will take some time to set in your child’s schedule. Hence, you should try to get braces for children during summers. That leaves you with plenty of time to help the kids if they encounter any difficulties or if you need to set up emergency appointments with your orthodontist.

Dental emergencies can occur at any time, such as participating in contact sports like hockey or football. If you’ve suffered a broken tooth or have had a tooth knocked out, it’s important to contact a dentist immediately. If your tooth has been knocked out, try to gently insert it into the socket and hold it there until you reach the dentist’s office. If you are unable to do so, place the tooth in a glass of milk  or water and bring it with you to a dentist or dental clinic as quickly as possible.

By focusing on Emergencies, we provide an extremely high level of emergency service. Helping you in those moments you just need relief! In a lot of cases people tend to let a little tooth ache fester until it becomes a major problem. Why live with something you don’t have to. Our expert Emergency Care Dentists give you relief immediately with the appropriate dental procedures.
