Emergency Dentist: How To Prevent Tooth Sensitivity

Read Now

Picture
Imagine sipping your favorite beverage, the classic hot chocolate on a chilly winter night. And at the first sip itself, you experience a sharp sensation in your teeth, ruining your moment and leaving you in complete discomfort. This is a result of acute tooth sensitivity. You certainly don’t want that to happen to you. So the best way to deal with this is to prevent tooth sensitivity even before you can be affected by it. After all, prevention is better than cure. There are many tips and hacks that you can use to prevent tooth sensitivity. Let’s take a look at some of them:

Brushing with the Right Toothpaste

Regularly brushing your teeth is a step towards preventing tooth sensitivity. Brushing your teeth twice daily will reduce the chances of tooth sensitivity. It would be ideal to use a toothbrush with soft bristles. And use a toothpaste which does not have levels of abrasives. So the next time you purchase your toothpaste, make a mindful choice.

Flossing

Flossing your teeth regularly is a good practice to maintain good dental hygiene. It helps in removing food particles from in between your teeth where your toothbrush cannot reach. This reduces the chances of gum disease, tooth decay and other dental illnesses which cause tooth sensitivity. It is ideal to floss at least once every day, preferably after brushing your teeth.

Avoid Acidic Foods

Acidic foods and drinks are a major cause of tooth sensitivity. The acid in these foods erodes the teeth enamel exposing their nerve endings. This then results in tooth sensitivity. So limit your intake of red wine, soda, fruit juices, citrus fruits and other acidic foods. And whenever you consume something highly acidic, see to it that you brush your teeth 20 minutes after eating.

Avoid Teeth Grinding

Do you grind your teeth when you are stressed out or angry? If you do, then it might be time for you to stop doing that. Teeth grinding damages your teeth enamel exposing the inner layer of your teeth. This then results in tooth sensitivity. So the next time you are tempted to grind your teeth, think about the downside of your stress-busting habit.

Regular Dental Checkup

Lastly, make sure you go for a regular dental checkup with our Edmonton emergency dentists. They will ensure that there are no dental illnesses and will help you prevent tooth sensitivity. Your dentist will suggest you measures and lifestyle changes to maintain good dental health.

Our dentists are also available to be contacted for follow up care. Please note, Emergency Dental Clinics have a wide range of operating hours and availability but we are not a 24/7 service provider. When you experience a true dental emergency, please contact us immediately. If your emergency cannot wait until normal operating hours, please contact your local hospital.

Dental emergencies can occur at any time, such as participating in contact sports like hockey or football. If you’ve suffered a broken tooth or have had a tooth knocked out, it’s important to contact a dentist immediately. If your tooth has been knocked out, try to gently insert it into the socket and hold it there until you reach the dentist’s office. If you are unable to do so, place the tooth in a glass of milk  or water and bring it with you to a dentist or dental clinic as quickly as possible.

By focusing on Emergencies, we provide an extremely high level of emergency service. Helping you in those moments you just need relief! In a lot of cases people tend to let a little tooth ache fester until it becomes a major problem. Why live with something you don’t have to. Our expert Emergency Care Dentists give you relief immediately with the appropriate dental procedures.
