Care Tips After Getting a Dental Crown

Read Now

Getting a Dental Crown

Dental crowns are dental caps which are a replicate of your teeth. It is installed to protect your damaged tooth, strengthen weak teeth and retain the beauty of your mouth. It is installed if a patient’s tooth is badly damaged. The dentist takes an x-ray of the affected area, then performs a root canal on the affected area. Then after taking the impression of your teeth, so it fits appropriately, then a dental crown is made. It helps you to eat and have good oral health as before. But once dental crowns are installed, you have to take good care of the crown and maintain it in the long run. So here are some tips on how to take care of your dental crowns.

Maintain Oral Hygiene

The lasting life of dental crowns is five to fifteen years. But its lifespan also depends on your oral hygiene. You should have excellent oral hygiene, so your dental crown lasts long. Brush twice daily, don’t forget to floss and rinse your mouth with an antibacterial mouthwash. Rinse, especially from the area where the dental crown is installed. These habits will help you maintain your oral health.

Relieve Bad Habits

Get rid of bad habits like chewing nails and grinding teeth. This can lead to loosening of the dental crown. Tooth grinding can damage your crown as well as your natural teeth. Misaligned teeth, stress and anxiety, or just a habit can be the cause for your teeth grinding. Some people suffer from bruxism in which teeth grinding occurs at night. A mouthguard can protect you from grinding teeth and damaging your dental crown while you are asleep.

Watch Your Diet

Some food can cause your crown to pull out. Take care of what you eat. Avoid eating hard and crunchy food like candies and nuts, it can chip your crown. Sugary food and drinks should be avoided as they can dislodge your crown. Sticky and chewy food like chewing gum, the caramel should also be avoided as they can stick and pull out your crown. Hot and cold food and beverages can be avoided too, as they can trigger sensitivity.

Visit Your Dentist Regularly

Do not skip your appointments with the dentist, visit your dentist for a regular checkup. If there will be any problem with your crown, your dentist will be able to resolve it before getting worse. If you feel any discomfort with the crown, get an appointment with your dentist. The dentist will check the crown and find the cause. Most of the time, this problem occurs because the crown is high.

It is a painstaking process for a dentist to implant a dental crown. From cleaning the tooth to root canal, it takes a lot of work. But dental crowns can get chipped or dislodged in a moment. So take good care of the crown and maintain your oral health.

Dental emergencies can occur at any time, such as participating in contact sports like hockey or football. If you’ve suffered a broken tooth or have had a tooth knocked out, it’s important to contact a dentist immediately. If your tooth has been knocked out, try to gently insert it into the socket and hold it there until you reach the dentist’s office. If you are unable to do so, place the tooth in a glass of milk  or water and bring it with you to a dentist or dental clinic as quickly as possible.

By focusing on Emergencies, we provide an extremely high level of emergency service. Helping you in those moments you just need relief! In a lot of cases people tend to let a little tooth ache fester until it becomes a major problem. Why live with something you don’t have to.
